My friends forced me to watch the Frozen Sing-Along at Disneyland California Adventures. Instead of reminding myself how much I dislike this movie, I decided to make this a productive use of my time and observe the lighting for this blog. Here’s a photo of a moving light onstage during the “Let it Go” song. The lights in this show were appropriately in cool blue and white colors. They were synchronized to Elsa’s sweeping arm gestures. It was really cool to see how the light directed movement to make a dramatic impact. The light flashing for a moment into the audience's eyes created a sense of awe from Elsa's powers. I like how the light was broken up into separate beams. It mimicked the growing icicles from Elsa’s ice castle. I also noticed that the show didn't use nearly as much light for any of the other songs. This exhibited the designer’s selectivity. It was smart to highlight the last song with bolder lighting. “Let it Go” is the sing-along’s last number and the only song anyone really cared about from Frozen.
